Dne 17. června 2010 slaví Ikona Range Rover své 40. narozeniny
Range Rover byl úplně prvním vozidlem na světě, které bylo stejně výkonné na silnicích i v terénu.
Range Rover byl úplně prvním všestranným luxusním vozidlem 4x4 a lze ho tak považovat za milník ve vývoji vozidel segmentu SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle).
Range Rover se během své historie představil již ve třech generacích.
Původní verze, dnes označovaná jako Classic, se začala prodávat v roce 1970. Její výroba s mnoha inovacemi a v řadě variant pokračovala po dalších 25 let. Prodej druhé generace vozidla známé jako P38a byl zahájen v roce 1994 a pokračoval až do roku 2001, kdy byl nahrazen současným modelem třetí generace.
Dlouhodobý úspěch vozidla Range Rover způsobil, že do segmentu luxusních vozidel SUV následně vstoupili i ostatní výrobci prémiových vozidel. Nejnovější verze Range Roveru se může aktuálně pochlubit dalším primátem. Jeho výroční výsledky prodeje jsou vyšší, než u jakéhokoli předchozího modelu. Svou popularitu si tak užívá po celém světě. Prodává se celosvětově počínaje Londýnem, přes Los Angeles, Sydney, Šanghaj a Turín až po Tokio. Range Rover zůstává jedinečnou volbou zákazníků, kteří hledají luxusní vozidlo SUV.
„Range Rover jsou ve skutečnosti čtyři vozidla v jednom,“
- říká Phil Popham, výkonný ředitel společnosti Land Rover. A dodává: „Jedná se o luxusní motorové vozidlo, které lze využívat doslova sedm dnů v týdnu. Je totiž vhodné pro pohodové trávení volného času a volnočasových aktivit, jelikož s přehledem zvládne celou škálu povrchů od upravených silnic po terény kdekoli na světě, s vysokou výkonností je ideální i pro cestování na velké vzdálenosti a díky své všestrannosti je využitelné i při práci na venkově a v terénu.“
Range Rover je jako stvořený pro princezny i politiky, rockové hvězdy, horolezce, fotbalisty i farmáře. Range Rover vždy přitahoval rozličné skupiny zákazníků.
Druhá modelová řada „Range Rover Sport“ byla představena v roce 2005 s cílem zaujmout více sportovně založené řidiče a zákazníky. Prakticky ihned zaznamenala velký úspěch a v roce 2007 se stal tento typ nejprodávanějším vozidlem značky Land Rover na celém světě.
Již tento rok bude představen další přírůstek do rodiny Range Rover a doplní tak portfolio na tři modelové řady. Nový model bude menší, lehčí a úspornější ve spotřebě, čímž bude plně v souladu se závazky firmy Range Rover týkající se ochrany životního prostředí. Ani tento model však nebude méně prémiový, nebude méně luxusní a exkluzivní, ani méně speciální než jsou ostatní modely značky Range Rover.

1983- Range Rover 5-speed manual gearbox is introduced
1985 - The diesel-powered Range Rover 'Bullet' breaks 27 speed records,including a diesel record for averaging more than 100mph for 24 hours
1987 - Range Rover launched in North America
1989 - Range Rover is the world's first 4x4 to be fitted with ABS anti-lock brakes
1990 - Limited Edition CSK – named after founder Charles Spencer King – is launched as a sportier Range Rover
1992 - Range Rover Classic is the world's first 4x4 to be fitted with electronic traction control (ETC)
1992 - Long-wheelbase LSE (known as County LWB in the US) launched
1992 - Automatic electronic air suspension introduced, a world first for a 4x4
